Congratulations, Jamie Campbell, on Being Selected for the 2019 Cunningham & Mears Academic Scholarship!

A strong justice system is critical to protecting people. At Cunningham & Mears, we believe it is our duty to help young law students achieve their dreams, so they can help uphold the rule of law in this country. That is why we are thrilled to announce that Jamie Campbell is the winner of the 2019 Cunningham & Mears Academic Scholarship.

Ms. Campbell is an extraordinary young woman who packed up her entire life and moved to Oklahoma City with her son to study at the Oklahoma City University School of Law. Her husband, an Explosive Ordinance Disposal Technician with the U.S. Marine Corps, is stationed at Camp Lejeune, which means the Campbells have to live apart. This arrangement is hard on them and on their son, but to use her own words, “success is never a downhill slope.”

Ms. Campbell has always wanted to be a lawyer, but didn’t know what area of law would suit her best. Before attending law school, she worked as a paralegal, but it didn’t satisfy her urge to effect real change.

Then, she discovered The Innocence Project. “I felt inspired in a way that I had never felt before and my desire to go to law school was refueled,” Ms. Campbell told us. “I knew that this was an organization I could dedicate my life to, and be proud of the work I am doing.” When she learned that the Oklahoma Innocence Project’s (OKIP) offices were housed at OCU Law, her decision was practically made for her. As a 2L student this fall, she will finally get to work with OKIP, and take the steps toward her dream of working on post-conviction appeals, and helping to pass legislation that keeps our justice system strong by making it work for everyone.

Jamie Campbell is the type of student we hoped we could help when we offered this annual $2500 scholarship: passionate, driven and ready to work hard. She moved halfway across the country to pursue this dream, and it is our honor to help her succeed. We hope you will join us in congratulating her and supporting her efforts to make the world a better place for everyone.

We wish you all the best for your future, Ms. Campbell. We cannot wait to see you change the world.
